CHEMICAL PEEL

Chemical Peel Q&A

What are chemical peels?

A chemical peel is a technique used to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck or hands whereby a chemical solution is applied to the skin that causes it to exfoliate and eventually peel off. We exclusively offer the Vi Peel ®, a medium depth peel, which means it is medical grade. The Vi Peel ® is a skin-resurfacing chemical peel that stimulates collagen and increases cellular turnover to reveal smoother and more radiant skin. There are 5 custom blends that target specifically your need.

What is the chemical peel procedure like?

Prior to treatment, the doctor will assess the patient's specific concerns and select the optimal peel for their treatment objectives. After removal of any makeup, the skin is carefully cleansed multiple times. Cleansing the skin is an essential part of the treatment as it degreases the skin by lifting lipids and sebum, as well as dehydrating it so the peel is better absorbed into the skin. It may feel like a rough scrubbing of the skin. The peel is then applied by our physician. The peel has a numbing agent in it, so after about 15 seconds of a “tingling” you will not feel anything. Your doctor will decide how many layers of the peel, but it is typically between 3-5.

What are the advantages of a chemical peel over other skin treatments?

Chemical peels provide dramatic results with no advanced skin preparation and minimal downtime.

What does the aftercare of a chemical peel entail?

We will provide you with our detailed custom aftercare instructions. You should avoid touching your face entirely for the first 4 hours after the peel. Your skin will look entirely normal the first two days after the peel. Typically, after 48 hours, your skin will start the peeling process. You will have the heaviest shedding days 3-4. Patients should avoid heavy sweating and stay out of the sun until the peeling process is complete (typically 5 days). Makeup is fine to apply, if desired, the following day. The area is completely healed usually in seven days.
